Golden Raspberry Awards

Nominees for The 34th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) were just announced for the worst movie, actor, director, etc. of 2014. I know it sounds mean, but it’s really a spoof.  Sandra Bullock personally appeared to receive the Razzie award in 2010 for Worst Actress (“All About Steve”) and had the audience cracking up with her acceptance speech. The next night she won an Oscar for Best Actress in “The Blind Side.” Plus, how can you feel sorry for Razzie winners when they have been paid millions of dollars? Musicians are the ones in need of your sympathy.

If a musician signed to a record company makes music that sucks and does not sell, the record company has the right to deduct the money paid to the musician and producer from future commercially successful projects, i.e. (recoupable advances paid against future royalties).

Think about that forrazzie a moment. How would you feel if you worked hard, putting your soul into it and your employer told you that you have to repay your wages?  Record companies have been sucking blood from musicians for more than 100 years with illusory, draconian contracts.  In contrast, no matter how bad a movie is, the actors and director keep the money they have been paid.  I am so happy that the internet has changed the way musicians market and promote music as well as changed the way fans consume music.  A musician can go directly to fans worldwide and seek support for creation and performance of music.

“Everything must change; nothing stays the same…the young become the old; mysteries do unfold…there are not many things in life you can be sure…except rain comes from the clouds; sun lights up the sky… and MUSIC makes me high…”  Benard Ighner

(Pic is from my raspberry patch. For those of you who have never eaten a juicy raspberry freshly plucked from the bush, “Farmer Aria”  is going to teach you something new. You suck the berry out of the stem; hence the name “Raspberry Awards” for movies and actors that suck. Every artist has had a bad performance; maybe not Razzie, but certainly not Oscar. The test is the totality of your career, not one movie or one concert.)

One Love…
