Female and Flush
Women in America have come a long way; from barefoot to birth control ; from victim to voting ; from being property to owning property. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title 7, made it illegal to discriminate against someone based on gender and title 9, which provides for equal education, is why we have funding for women’s sports in colleges. However, women still get paid less than men for doing the same work. Unless women have strategies to succeed, we will continue to struggle.
If you have a job, use your brains; not your emotions. You give your boss a “piece of your mind” and he takes your whole job. Focus on what you can do to improve yourself. Find out if your employer has free training programs; whether they will pay for you to take college classes; google articles about great women in your field. Listen and learn everything you can from your employer and supervisors. I make a habit of studying successful people and asking them for advice.
If you don’t have a job, you got to have a plan, then action! Join the service, Job Corps, Peace Corps, get GED, college degree, entertain people, clean elephant poop in a circus…the list is long. Even if it’s dog work, tell yourself it’s temporary, long as necessary. Think of ways you can earn a living by providing a service to humanity and you will be flush. Poker players know flush is good and a royal flush is great, but you do not have to be born royal to be flush. No matter what hand you are dealt, you can succeed eventually if you learn the rules, practice and never give up.
