Donald Trump promised in his victory speech on June 7, 2016 that: “We’re going to rebuild our inner cities, which are absolutely a shame and so sad. We’re going to take care of our African-American people that have been mistreated for so long.” Many Americans criticized Mr. Trump’s pledge, saying it’s “racist.” Trump has made racist statements that I disagree with, but this is not one of them. I can not speak for all African Americans, but I would welcome reparations for the historical and present day mistreatment of African Americans. However, I’ll believe it when and if I see it.
