We’re both signed with MondoTunes, the music distribution company recently acquired by Greek billionaire Alki David. Chief Keef cut an A list deal and just released a video through FilmOn, another business under Mr. David’s Anakando Media Group’s umbrella. Although some of Chief Keef’s fans say he’s sold out because his new music is all about stopping the violence instead of “gansta,” like his hit song ” I don’t like,” which was remixed by fellow Chicagoan Kanye West, I disagree. Wanting to stop senseless Black on Black crime is not selling out; it’s sensible. His latest release and video “Aint Missin’ you” featuring Jenn Em memorializes his cousin, rapper Big Glo, shot dead in the murder capital of America, Chicago. Chief Keef credits his change to “growing up, moving from Chicago, and getting signed by Alki David” after Interscope Records terminated his contract.
Mr. David may seem a bit eccentric at first glance, but he is a brilliant businessman and is making major waves in the entertainment industry. His other company, Hologram USA, seeks to bring back the dead through technology. Well, not literally; more like a refined version of Michael Jackson’s posthumous performance at the Billboard Awards show and Tupac at Coachella. Despite the fact that experts insist true holograms are a far way from reality, Hologram USA’s goal is to deliver “live” concerts of Ray Charles and other musical legends.
Analyzing Alki David’s acquisition of media companies is like watching an unorthodox chess master. I’m not sure what moves he has planned for MondoTunes, but as an artist affiliated with MondoTunes, I am confident his association and capitalization will be beneficial.
One Love,
Aria
