Your life can change in an instant. One minute you could be sitting in your house, minding your business, watching television and in the blinking of an eye, someone could launch a nuclear weapon burning you, your home and everything else within the bomb’s path. Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, one of the “Free Mama Earth” beneficiaries, “wages peace” to help prevent nuclear warfare. Change can also come slowly, like climate change, caused by burning fossil fuels (gas, coal, oil) & deforestation. Environmental Defense Fund, the other “Free Mama Earth” donee, works diligently and creatively in the struggle to stop climate change and save our environment.
Every movement for change needs an anthem. The Civil Rights marchers wailed “We Shall Overcome.” Anti-Apartheid warriors sang “Nkosi Sikelel.” These songs inspired, soothed and uplifted people fighting for equal rights and justice. The environmental movement is fighting for our very existence. “Free Mama Earth” is the anthem for our environmental movement, expressing the belief and faith that we will “Free” (save, rescue, liberate) Mama Earth from the humans who are hell bent on destroying us and the only home we have – Earth. I know it can seem overwhelming and impossible, but the late President Nelson Mandela said:
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
