Making Music

I love making music; starting from an idea, a small seed, then hearing the beautiful, finished song. But there’s a whole lot of work that happens in between.

Some think that once an artist goes into the studio and sings or plays his instrument into the microphone, that’s it.  Since I announced all of the music and vocals for “Free Mama Earth” have been recorded, several people messaged me asking when they can buy “Free Mama Earth.”    If you think about making a record in terms of putting a gigantic puzzle of an unknown Matisse painting together, then you will appreciate the art of producing a song.

Each musician and vocalist records a lot of takes (tracks) separately, sometimes from different states or even countries.  It’s up to the producer to decide which takes sound best, to balance the instruments, to decide which effects, if any, to add, etc. You can give 3 producers the same raw tracks and you will end up with 3 different sounding songs.  After the producer finishes “mixing” the song (a process that can take months), the song is sent out to be mastered – a fresh eared engineer makes the song sound bigger and transfers the audio files into a master.  Only then is the song ready to go to the distributor who commercially releases the song (uploads the song to itunes, amazon, spotify, etc. so you can download and stream.)

There is still more creative work needed to be done on “Free Mama Earth.” Please donate something to this charitable cause of “SAVING OUR ENVIRONMENT THROUGH MUSIC.”  Please SHARE this link.
