This red raw silk dress was designed and made for me by dear Mary Gordon, in my hometown, Charleston, South Carolina. Shout out to all my Geechie Gullah relatives and friends. 🙂 Charleston, aka the Port City, earned its name by importing and selling enslaved African children, women and men and exporting rice, sugar and other crops that my ancestors were forced to grow. Because of this sordid history, I have a deep desire to be some small part of the struggle to end 21st century slavery around the world.
